When it comes to living in the city, it can often be a little stressful for many.
The never ending sound of traffic, congestion and people shouting on the streets, alongside the claustrophobic feeling of travelling about, whether that be on the buses or trains can make people feel uncomfortable.
One simply can’t enjoy the feeling of strangers being pushed against you as people try to squeeze into subway trains, something especially common during rush hour!
If you live in places like London, Tokyo or New York, then you know exactly what I mean!
Nonetheless, it’s by no means impossible to enjoy the urban landscape and urban air that the city can offer.
It is in fact possible to feel relaxed by the city and there are in fact many ways that living in the city can be a healthy thing…
If you’re someone that loves scenery, architecture and a city of lights and vibrant colours, then many cities out there will certainly cater to you!
For a lot of us, the city life can often be rather chaotic, with the never ending rush hour traffic and swarms of people, but believe it or not, many can actually find peace and tranquillity from living in the city…
This is due to everything coming down to the breath-taking scenery that cities are just simply in abundance of.
Just think about the gorgeous view of Central park from the top of an apartment in New York with winter city lights hugging the boarders of the park!
There’s no doubt that that would be a sight to behold!
Beautiful city scenery and skylines can act as great stress relievers for many people as they can create a perfect environment for meditation and relaxation from the bustling, busy city life. This is a fantastic way to optimise your well-being!
If you’ve ever been to a mega city like London or Tokyo, then you’ll know that these places are absolutely populated with endless things that you can do.
Anything you can think of to do, I’m ensure these cities will offer, so don’t be surprised to stumble across some surprising or bizarre activities, attraction, sites or events.
Even something as bizarre as an Owl cafe in Tokyo does in fact exist where you can eat while being surrounded by these majestic birds.
Trying an escape room or taking tours of underground dungeon buried below these historic cities also comes to mind!
Such activities are fantastic if you’re either an extroverted introvert or are wondering how to be extroverted, because they help to raise social awareness throughout the city.
It’s events and activities like this that help create a sense of community in these cities and can really help unite everyone in the city to share their cultures or to simply make new friends.
So whether you want to go on adventure in London to see every Victorian landmark or go to Tokyo to try out Sumo wrestling with a group of friends, there are dozens of cities to visit that will encourage you to get of of the house more and raise your social awareness!
If you’ve just moved into the city and are perhaps away from home with little to no friends or anyone that you know, then don’t worry! That’s completely normal.
Besides, living in the city makes feeling like your at home even easier.
That’s because you can probably make friends in a matter of seconds – It could be as quick as becoming besties with your next door neighbour.
Moreover, many cities offer pubs, bars, restaurant and meetup groups to help you connect with people who are also looking to make some connections!
Have a look around in your city and I’m sure you’ll find something.
Raising social awareness for yourself is something very useful for anyone suffering from social anxiety or shyness as well. It’s a great way to gain confidence and overcome unnecessary feelings of embarrassment which can be felt when meeting new people.
Plus, it’s an awesome way to gel with people, have a laugh, have a drink and just an awesome time to get to know each other!
For me at least, food may probably be the sole reason to come and live in the city.
You won’t believe how mesmerising and out of this world some street food can really be.
Come to London for example and visit Shoreditch. You’ll find that you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the range of foods from different regions across the globe that are on offer.
From the indulging smell of a spicy chicken biryani to the flamboyant, smoky smell of barbecued beef-filled tacos, don’t be surprised if your nostrils become drunk off the incredible fumes in the air!
Street food can be absolutely incredible if your looking to add things to your diet that you’ve never tried before.
You’ll be surprised how many foods that you don’t like can suddenly be of interest after trying out some very unique dishes and foods from many cool cultural backgrounds.
So don’t be shy and explore what street food a city of your interest may possess…
The opportunities to indulge in sports and keeping fit are endless when it comes to embracing the city life.
It doesn’t matter what city you are in; you will find some incredible sports and activities for keeping fit.
These are just a few of dozens of sports that just skim the waters of what’s out there! Stuff like this can greatly raise social awareness for you and are once again a fantastic way to may a new group of friends!
Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and sink your teeth into some of these sports; I’m sure that they are easier than you’d think to find near you in the city!
A lot of people don’t realise how much better it is to access physical healthcare as well as mental healthcare in the city.
It’s as easy as simply walking down the road to your local therapist, medical centre or GP.
It’s very likely that a city of interest to you will offer a plethora of therapists, psychologists, pharmacies, doctors and care workers who are highly qualified and well-trained.
Bear in mind, it can be relatively over-whelming living in the city when you consider how much hustle and chaos you’re surrounded by.
Taking care of your mental health and maintaining a positive mentality is important and having access to the right medicine, healthcare and physical activity, whether that be sports or the gym can help to maintain that right level of health.
Living in the city can be a very fortunate thing because of this! Just consider how little healthcare many rural areas across the global offer and compare them to a strongly developed city or economy. It’s for this reason that things like hygiene and mental health are potentially in better hand in the city!
