For a lot of us, we tend to fall into a routine of boredom and feeling that we don’t have anything to do and this can lead us to stay indoors and do nothing but watch our favourite Netflix shows or play video games.
But just because we feel that we don’t have anything important to do, it doesn’t mean that we should just sit about at home and be lazy!
Being lazy is an ingredient to becoming unmotivated and uninterested in our daily lives and it’s something that we should be avoided as much as possible!
Life is simply too short for us to lounge about at home, rotting our minds by staring at a screen. You can check out why right here!
Here are a few simple ways to stop locking yourself indoors and get yourself out of the house:
Sitting at home can create this feeling of laziness and slowness like you’ve suddenly become a sloth. Our brains suddenly lose the urge to find any form of productivity that allows us to hustle and work hard.
This is where sports and leisure activities come into play.
Participating in sports, especially team-based sports can greatly benefit your mind as they are both physical and mental games.
Sports such as 5-a-side football (or soccer) where we must think about our positioning on the pitch and strategy to tackle someone with the ball as well as fast-paced sports such as swimming and cycling that can challenge our minds to push our bodies to the limit can really strengthen our minds and bodies.
And of course, while we may procrastinate these activities as we see them as “work”, recognising the benefits of these sports should help us to participate in them.
You may meet new friends, and expand your friendship group, or even develop an addiction to the sport you are playing.
Such benefits can further incentivise you to avoid locking yourself indoors.
There is a good chance that a lot of us may have some sort of work to do.
Whether it is related to our school or college work, or even work related to our jobs, there will always be a way to incorporate this work outside our homes.
Take homework for example. It is a definite fact that young people, especially teenagers in school or college, can end up getting glued to their rooms. By adjusting your homework schedule such that you can do it in the park, nearby café or even library, you are potentially shielding yourself from the laziness of your indoor environment.
Furthermore, the great thing about Cafés and parks is that they are social spaces.
Where you may experience solitude and loneliness by staying at home, away from the outside world, Cafés and parks allow you to reduce your anxiety from being in social spaces surrounded by people, something very valuable for anyone who feels introverted.
This added to the fact that parks are also green environments where there is potential to find peace and quietness can also help boost your productivity relative to staying in your home by making you feel relaxed, focused and more comfortable.
Hence, I would highly recommend incorporating any important work you have into an outdoor environment
For those of us who have a significant addiction to staying at home, especially when we have too much free time, it can seem rather difficult to take a step outside.
That is why simply creating a daily routine to go for a walk or a jog even with relatives or friends, can be a great stepping stone to developing a relationship with the outside world.
Even something as simple as scheduling a daily walk around the town or local field or park after lunch or in the evening for 30 minutes can have a great impact on both your mental and physical health and even your level of discipline if you make it a regular habit.
It can freshen your body up by ensuring strong cardiovascular health for your heart and blood pressure, as well as provide your lungs with a healthy intake of fresh air that may be limited at home from all the dust potentially floating in your bedroom.
In fact, getting into the routine of doing early morning walks before work or school can actually boost your energy levels for the day allowing you to remain confident for the day and helping your mind to stay active and ready to tackle the challenges you may face.
Making a habit of going outdoors more frequently does not necessarily have to solely involve doing sports activities or endless amounts of exercise.
It can simply revolve around other activities or things that you have interests for.
If you love art and design and painting in your free time, there is a good chance you’ll find a local art club at your local studio. The same goes for social cooking classes where you can chat and make friends whilst having fun cooking.
If you enjoy music and playing the piano or trumpet, there is no doubt that there will be a music group or club you can be a part of.
Even interests such as ones for cars will likely have automotive clubs or car meets for people who enjoy fancy sports cars to meet up and chat about their passions.
These types of clubs, events and social meet-ups only touch the surface for what is out there for you to dive into.
All it takes is some simple research in your local area to find out about these places and you will certainly enjoy being part of these communities that share your passions.
Whether it’s sports and leisure activities, changing up your working environment, trying out some more social activities simply going for a walk or run, encouraging yourself to go outdoors is easier than you might think!
Experiment with different activities and ideas to see which ones suit you. All it takes is some experience and you won’t regret it afterwards!
